Red Cross Volunteers Support Service to Armed Forces
Thursday, May 22, 2008 Active duty military personnel, members of the National Guard and Reserves, veterans and their families are never far away from American Red Cross services. This is so because of a network of more than 6,000 volunteers, 700 Red Cross chapters, 58 military installations worldwide and staff working in forward deployed locations in Kuwait, Afghanistan and Iraq.
If you like supporting service members and their families, the Red Cross is a good place to volunteer.
On this Memorial Day Weekend, it is important to recognize Red Cross volunteers who give of themselves even when members of their own family are in peril. Shana Johnson and Cindy Redmond, both military spouses, have found that volunteering for the Red Cross is a very satisfying way to give back to their communities.
About the American Red Cross:
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and counsels victims of disasters; provides nearly half of the nation's blood supply; teaches lifesaving skills; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization – not a government agency – and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its humanitarian mission.
