Tuesday, November 13, 2007 — The American Red Cross has been awarded a four-star rating for the sixth straight year by Charity Navigator, an independent evaluator and watchdog of the nation’s nonprofit sector.
The American Red Cross has been named a Four-Star Charity by Charity Navigator for the sixth consecutive year.
The American Red Cross has been named a Four-Star Charity by Charity Navigator for the sixth consecutive year.

Charity Navigator helps potential donors make informed giving decisions by evaluating more than 5,000 charities on several factors, including efficiency, financial health and service delivery. A rating of four stars—the highest ranking given by the watchdog group—indicates that the American Red Cross “exceeds industry standards,” managing its finances in an efficient and effective manner. Charity Navigator also named the American Red Cross the best multi-purpose humanitarian organization in its 2007 holiday giving guide.

“The American Red Cross is committed to using donor dollars wisely, and we are honored that Charity Navigator has recognized our efforts,” says Kathleen Loehr, interim senior vice president of Development at the American Red Cross. “Donors can be assured that their dollars are hard at work, helping us fulfill our humanitarian mission.”

The American Red Cross helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Last year, almost a million volunteers and 35,000 employees helped victims of almost 75,000 disasters; taught lifesaving skills to millions; and helped U.S. service members separated from their families stay connected. Almost 4 million people gave blood through the Red Cross, the largest supplier of blood and blood products in the United States. The American Red Cross is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. An average of 91 cents of every dollar the Red Cross spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs. The Red Cross is not a government agency; it relies on donations of time, money, and blood to do its work.
